Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives. Charles Fisher Objectives: The objective of this class, and teacher, is to help you become a better reader and writer. As Malcolm X said, "By any means necessary!" Texts: McDougal Littell: The Language of Literature Themes: Themes we will be looking at this year are: tolerance, Americanism & the American Dream, Individualism, and Freedom. Units: We will be studying the following units in the 1st semester: Voices of Colonial America American Revolution/Writers in a Growing Nation New England Speaks/Transcendentalism Procedures: No purses on your desk or lap...Put them under the chair, or in your locker. Cell phones, and ALL other electronic devices: 1st Offense: Item will be confiscated until the end of the period. 2nd Offense: Item will be confiscated and given to the dean for parent pick-up. You will receive on bathroom pass for six weeks. Once you use it, no more bathroom trips. Journal Requirements Writing is just like anything else: the more you practice, the better you become. In this class, you are required to write ½ page each day in your journal. Most classes will use the five minutes at the beginning of class to, at least, begin to complete the ½ page. However, when it becomes clear that most of the class is not using the five minutes, the journal becomes a standing homework assignment.
