We should think of the United States as a “melting pot” in which people from many cultures leave their differences behind. This picture, taken from www.deh.gov.au, represents the statement because it shows steel being poured from a pot. If the United States were a melting pot, the steel would represent immigrants coming here, and losing their cultural identity in the blast furnace. This has to do with Raisin in the Sun because the Youngers are moving to Clybourne Park, and they will have to reconcile their differences with their white neighbors after they get there. It will be difficult, since few of the people there want African-Americans as neighbors.
